How can parents teach their children social skills?

Continuing on from the previous post, here are more things you can do at home to help develop your child’s social skills…

3. Display warm positive emotions at home

One of the reasons why I am glad I am a stay-at-home-Mum is because I feel it has had a great impact on my overall disposition towards life in general.  When I was working, I used to allow the stresses of work get to me – both at work and in my personal life.  I’d hate to think that I would be bringing all those negative emotions back home to my children.

It is important for our children to see positive emotions and positive attitudes from their parents.  It gives them the confidence to come to us when they are in need of emotional comfort and counsel.  By dealing with negative situations with a positive attitude, we’re also demonstrating to our children how to face setbacks in life.  As they say: “Monkey see, monkey do.”  If we can’t handle a little setback, how can we expect our children to “take things in stride” when something doesn’t go their way?
