Entertainment for the Car – Audio Storybooks

Back in the good ol’ days before iPad, this was how G1 entertained himself in the car. Now that we’ve banned iPads in the car, we’ve revisited an old favourite way to distract the boys so they don’t pummel each other to bits or drive me mad with their endless bickering. Audio story books are also a great way for G2 to reinforce his reading skills without G1 or myself to assist.

Usborne Audiobooks – we picked up a copy of Puss in Boots at the school book sale during Book Week.

We also picked up a few Winnie the Witch Audiobooks from the school library featuring children’s book illustrator, Korky Paul:

More Pants with its quirky prose from Giles Andreae and recordings with various musical styles had G2 singing along to the book by heart. We still hear him singing it from time to time even though we’ve returned the book to the library.

10 Little Ducks by Eric Carle – G1, who read the foreword in this book, tells me that Eric Carle was inspired to write this story after seeing a news article featuring a container ship that spills a variety of objects into the sea, including some rubber ducks.

Our old Thomas Railway Stories are also seeing a new lease on life as G2 “rediscovers” the series that once captivated G1 so…
