Brain Training: Dual N Back Training Improves Fluid Intelligence

I was reading the about the research by Lumosity recently and noticed a peer-reviewed study on “Improving fluid intelligence with training on working memory” which showed that “cognitive training with a task called Dual N-Back enhanced fluid intelligence”.

What is fluid intelligence?

Fluid intelligence refers to the ability to reason and to solve new problems independently of previously acquired knowledge. It is a critical component of IQ and is important for a wide variety of cognitive tasks. Fluid intelligence is also considered one of the most important factors in learning and has been shown to be closely related to professional and educational success, especially in complex and demanding environments.

What is Dual N-Back Training?

“N-back is a memory test where n refers on how many previous stimuli must be remembered. Dual means that verbal auditory stimulus and spatial visual stimulus are presented at the same time. Two memory tests are run simultaneously and n previous auditory and spatial targets must be remembered separately.”

What are the Implications?

With Dual N-Back Training, you can improve your IQ and make yourself smarter.
