  1. Hahaha… Yes, ESP. That is exactly what I thought the first time I read Makoto Shichida’s book on Right Brain education. I thought, ESP? You can’t be serious. But I paid for the book to be shipped to me from Japan so I figured the least I could do was read it with an open mind. After all, there was a point in time when we thought the Earth was flat and anyone who thought otherwise was mad. We also thought the Earth was the center of the solar system and the sun revolved around the Earth. These days, we know differently. Who am I to say whether or not ESP truly exists?

The scientific explanation for it appears to agree with everything I have ever understood about quantum mechanics (granted my knowledge of quantum mechanics is by no means in depth – nevertheless I cannot fault the theory). Every object around us is made up of tiny particles that are constantly vibrating. They all give off energy. The way our eyes are able to see objects is by using the receptors on our retina to pick up light energy from the visible spectrum. It’s not really so far-fetched to think that children have the ability to pick up other energy waves that allow them to, say, predict the weather. Or in the case of wave reading – absorb the contents of a book without having to “read” it.

Makoto Shichida called it ESP. Personally, I think calling it ESP sets it up as a topic that invites ridicule and skepticism. This isn’t the first time that it’s been talked about. All those people discussing “The Secret” and “The Law of Attraction” are talking about the same thing, except they were probably smarter because they didn’t refer to it as ESP.

If you asked me this time last year what I thought about ESP, I probably would have scoffed at it all and not given it a second thought. What put me on this path was the interest to learn about right brain education, or more specifically, what Makoto Shichida taught his students that helped them develop photographic memory, the ability to perform rapid complex calculations in their head, and to speed read.

As a student, I would have killed to have just one of those abilities. I figured if there was a way to help my children develop these abilities, it sure would make school a lot easier for them. Although I started sending the kids to right brain education schools, I wanted to know more. How could sending my child to a special class once a week help them develop these abilities? And so I dug deeper and this is where it led me.

A friend once wrote a paper about why it is better to believe in God. In a nutshell – albeit in a rather simplistic view – he said it was better to believe in God because if God does exist, then you’ll get to go to heaven after you die. If God doesn’t exist, nothing will happen to you. If you don’t believe and God does exist, you’ll end up in hell. In other words, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by believing. Similarly here, my children have nothing to lose and everything to gain by following Makoto Shichida’s principles.

  2. No, but I’m hopeful… If we are successful, I’ll be sure to write about it here. My kids are 3.5y and 8 months and I only got to know about right brain earlier this year. There hasn’t been much written about it online so I have been trying to find out as much as I can about it ever since.

  3. > It’s not really so far-fetched to think that children have the ability to pick up other energy waves

Yes. Yes it is. This is the single point around which your entire argument relies, and it’s patently false.

If anyone could actually “right brain read”, they would win a million dollars from The James Randi Educational foundation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Randi_Educational_Foundation), as doing so would go against all known scientific knowledge.

    1. Hi Matt,

To be honest, I had never heard of the James Randi Educational foundation until someone read my blog post and told me about it so it is highly possible that they don’t know about it.

I have met this woman personally. If her program wasn’t working, don’t you think she would have come under fire in Japan a long time ago? The kids have been featured in Japanese talk shows and they have demonstrated their ability.

National Broadcast TBS 32 “Unan no Honto No Tokoro – GET REAL”

The HEGL students were introduced in this TV programming under the theme, “geniuses: boys and girls.”

In the classroom, students were introduced performing memorization techniques and Speed Reading. And in the TV studio, the students competed with other studio guests in a diagram memorizing game.

The studio prepared a book and had three HEGL 2nd and 3rd grade students flip through the pages using the Speed Reading technique and, afterwards, wrote out the contents of the book without error.

Feel free to dig up something to convince me otherwise because I am always happy to be enlightened.

  4. Dear All, I am Ng Thian Watt, I just return from China where I learn Speed Reading including Wave Speed Reading. I am a member of an association in Malaysia, where we practice Mind Power. I get to know about Wave Speed reading recently and was introduced to a Guru in China by a reliable friend. Being someone who has a keen interest in Mind power, I went to china and learn this technique. Before going to China, I checked with some learned friends (PHD) from China and Taiwan. Some told me it is fake! Some says it is genuine. I went and learn and I am convince it is GENUINE. It is ESP and surprisingly we can ignite our ESP ability easily. I am keen to learn and discuss more on this.
