The Discipline Armoury: Tip 15 – Make it Brief, Make it Clear

Tip 1, Tip 2, Tip 3, Tip 4, Tip 5, Tip 6, Tip 7, Tip 8, Tip 9, Tip 10, Tip 11, Tip 12, Tip 13, Tip 14.

Make it Brief, Make it Clear

I think this one’s quite straight-forward: don’t lecture your toddler, keep your messages short and sweet or they won’t hear you.  I think it goes without saying that toddlers have short attention spans so if you start to rattle on too long, chances are they won’t catch anything you’re trying to tell them.  Repeat yourself if necessary, but don’t elaborate.  Sounds almost like writing an ad, doesn’t it?

Well, I think I’ve been guilty of being a little too wordy at times.  I think it’s easy to forget they’re still children with toddler brains once they can speak and articulate themselves fairly well.
