Everyone knows that getting your first novel published is tough, but did you know it is easier to break into certain genres? How about the romantic genre? At least that’s what Drew Turney from The Writing Magazine says…

Most people might be too embarrassed to admit they read romance novels, however, it appears that a lot more readers read this genre than we realise. If you want to see your name on a published book, writing a romance novel might just be the way to go. Don’t believe me? Take a look at some of these stats from The Writing Magazine:

The romance genre is at the top of selling list and it’s growing – in 2007, 8090 romance titles were released (25.9% more than the previous year).
In 2007, the US book market was worth $10.71billion, or which romance novels contributed $1.375billion (12.9% of sales)
64.6million Americans read at least one romance novel in a year – not bad considering reading is supposedly a dying hobby with the advent of PlayStation, Nintendo and DVDs.

What’s the downside of being a writer of romance novels? Very little credibility. Not surprising since the followers themselves are closet romance readers. For some reason, being an author in the romance genre is considered the equivalent of being a writer of drivel.

Whatever your biasses may be about writing a romance novel, if you are determined to get your name out there, then this might just be the way to go…
