A Word A Day
As part of my initiative to expand my vocabulary and train my brain so it doesn’t rot away, I’ve signed up to receive a A Word a Day in my mailbox. The plan is to write a post each day containing my “new word” in context, starting today.
Today’s word is tartuffe, which basically refers to a person who is a hyprocrite in matters relating to virtue and religion. A tartuffe pretends to be virtuous and yet is not. Hmmm… sounds a bit like me, or at least how I’ve been feeling for the past few years. I mean, I’m supposed to be a Christian, but sometimes I gotta question my faith. I say I am a Christian but I haven’t been going to church. Well, not that being a Christian is measured by how often you go to church…
When I was a kid, I used to believe. I mean, really believe. I didn’t go to church back then, but I felt strong in my faith. I shared my faith without being afraid. Now, I hesitate. Not because I’m afraid of being ridiculed or because I might lose friends, but because I feel like a tartuffe if I were to start talking about God. With such hollow faith, how could I possibly ask someone else to believe?
