A Work in Progress by Pin Lean and Shen-Li.
He opened his eyes and stared into the darkness. He felt as though his head was pounding like the native beat of the African Congo drums until his sluggish mind recognised the sound of distant drums ringing in his ears. A soiled gag with the acrid, metallic taste of blood silenced his voice, while rough leather thongs cut into his wrists and ankles where they bound him. The ground beneath him was dry and firm, the parched earth pleading to skies to release the rain clouds. His body felt stiff from lying too long in this awkward position, aching in far too many places.
My sister! He recalled sharply as the memories came flooding back like a crashing wave pounding the on the shores of a beach. Desperately, he searched the darkness around him with his eyes and ears, his bound limbs fumbling clumsily hoping to catch some sign of her. Even though his senses failed him, the intangible bond they shared, as only twins might, told him she was not here.
Did they know? Was that why they separated her from him? But how could they have known? Unless…
He had to get out. He had to find her.
