Queensland was known as the Sunshine State back when I lived in Australia. In December 2004, when the hubby and I flew over to Brisbane, I made my first trip to the Gold Coast. Since it is located quite close to Brisbane, we hired a car and drove out there for the day. It’s hard to imagine that I lived 16 years in Australia and I never once travelled outside of Victoria except to Sydney to visit some relatives.
Sea World is like a zoo dedicated to sea creatures large and small - with the exception of the polar bears. The only thing that the polar bears have in common is that they like to play in water. I think they were on loan to the park but I’m not sure if they are intended to be a permanent feature.
One unique activity you can do at Sea World which I thought was pretty cool is to go scuba diving with the sharks. Not exactly my idea of fun, but I have to give them credit for coming up with such a novel concept for those who like to thread in dangerous waters - no pun intended.
If you take a look through the slide show, you’ll notice some photos of a seal in training. The lady was training the seal to dive into the water from differing platform heights. Despite all the treats she gave the seal, he or she (I wasn’t sure if the seal was male or female) refused to jump from the high platform. Every time the trainer lead the seal up to the higher platform, the seal would jump down to the lower platform before diving into the pool. I guess seals have fear too.
They also have performances held at certain times of the day and we managed to catch one of the shows. The seals that acted in the show were rather clever. They were so well trained for their parts that they had the audience roaring with laughter. There are some photos in the slideshow of these clever seals playing their parts just as well as the top Hollywood actors. I think they ought to be nominated for an Oscar.
