Although the hubby and I have just bought our first home together, we’ve been talking about plans to build our own dream home in the future. As a child, I would follow my parents to display homes and pour over house plans when they were in the process of building their dream home. I remember taking the plans that they collected and creating my own dream houses out of them, modifying them according to my own desires.

Ever since the hubby and I touched on the idea of building our dream home it has brought back memories of those housing plans I used to look at when I was a child. As they say in the Secret - what you think about, you will receive.  Recently, I came across another housing site called HDA Inc which allows you to browse through housing plans by architectural styles or search for plans to your dream home by specific features, like number of bedrooms, square footage, etc.

What I like about HDA Inc is that they also offer multi-family home plans which cater for families of all sizes. It is a Chinese tradition for the grandparents to live with the children especially in their advancing age and a multi-family home plan accommodates this style of living by cleverly combining two homes.  You can choose an open plan of living with an in-law suite or a more private style of living by using a duplex plan to suit your preferences.

The other feature of HDA Inc that I like is that they allow you to modify their plans. Dream homes by nature are very personal and finding one that meets a personal set of criteria in every way is rare. With HDA Inc, you can input the features you want into their search function, look at the plans they have in their database and send in a request to modify the plan that comes closest to your dream home.  Short of sitting down with an architect and working by trial and error, I don’t know of a better way you can create find the plans to your dream home.
