Welcome to my blog. These are the memoirs of an undomestic goddess who went from a high flying corporate career to stay-at-home-Mum. Join me as I learn about Chinese culture, how to cook and decorate a home. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Obviously a delayed period for the reasons stated in my earlier post is hardly likely to cause vertigo and nausea, however, an observation of the emergence of more symptoms over the last few days have provided yet another alternative diagnosis.

Symptoms: Vertigo, dizziness, pressure to the head

A few days ago, my sinuses started flaring up much in the same way it did when I was suffering from Hayfever in Australia.

Prior to the wedding, I had also felt light-headed and the sensation of pressure to my head, particularly between my eyes. A trip to the local GP confirmed it was most likely my sinuses, despite the fact that I didn’t get the nasal congestion and the sneezing bouts I have been experiencing lately.

There is a sinus between the eyes called the ethmoidal sinus. An inflammation to this sinus correlates to the pressure I felt between my eyes. At that time, the doctor prescribed a cortico-steroid in the form of a nasal spray called, Rhinocort. I had used Rhinocort before without much problems. Of course, on the week leading up to my wedding, no less, I had to develop an allergic reaction to it. You can read about it – here.

I suppose everything links up quite well because I felt the sensation of pressure between my eyes prior to the onset of nasal congestion. Even though I no longer have that pressure, the accumulation of fluid contributing to nasal congestion is part of the inflammatory reaction.

Symptoms: Nausea, anorexia

When I visited the GP regarding my nausea and lack of appetite, she performed a pregnancy test to discount the possibility of pregnancy.

During her examination of my tummy, she asked if there was any pain when she palpated my abdomen. There wasn’t any. A percussion test revealed that there was wind in my tummy, even though I didn’t have any sensations of feeling bloated.

She prescribed Domperidone, which is an anti-emetic (anti-nausea) which also helps manage wind and bloatedness in the tummy. This is another drug you don’t take if you’re pregnant as it can cause birth defects. It is also advisable not to use this drug when you are breast feeding.

The doctor also prescribed another medication which was not labeled. They were small peach-coloured pills that are meant to reduce the acid levels in my tummy.

I have a feeling that my stomach upset may be linked to my increased consumption of meat of late. Having been a vegetarian for some five years now, I presume my stomach didn’t take too well to it.
