Getting back on the road to fitness is never easy, especially when the mind recalls being able to do a lot of things that the body has forgotten how to do.

In the grand scheme of things, I figured I had better start putting some good use to that three year gym membership I bought from Celebrity Fitness at 1Utama. 75 bucks a month isn’t a good deal when your frequency of visit to the gym is about twice a month. Secondly, since we’ve postponed the wedding to next year, it now gives me plenty of time to get into better shape for that special day.

My partner’s been steadily stacking the kilos on the front end and I’ve been teasing him about making me look better in the photos. I’m also hoping that my renewed dedication to the gym will help inspire him to increase his frequency of visit to the gym that I coerced him into joining. Currently his frequency is about zero times a month.

So Monday morning came and I woke up bright eye and bushy tailed for the Yoga class. Somehow or other, I had managed to procrastinate my way through the morning to make it in time for the Bodypump class. It was a painful class. Even though I went easy on the weights, halfway through, I felt like I was going to throw up. That’s enough for one day.

Went home for a shower and nearly tumbled down the stairs. My legs felt like jelly and are still aching today.

Monday evening, I promised to start rock climbing again with a friend who’s also trying to get her flow back. I figured I was still feeling up to it after my Bodypump session since climbing has always been more upper body. It went somewhat better than the last time we climbed together, which was about two weeks prior. It was not at all inspiring to be able to struggle through a 6A route that I had once been able to breeze through.

The morning after was the real killer. The initial plan was to attend the morning aerobics class. Succumbing to the temptations of sleeping in, I only made it to the gym in the afternoon where there were no classes. I spent about half and hour on the elliptical cycle and the rest of the time with light weights. I thought that if I could get the blood flowing through my muscles again, the lactic acid ache might dissipate somewhat. Oh boy was I wrong!

I was aching all the way from start of dinner to the end. Feeling incredibly sleepy, I was glad that it ended early. I went home to crash with half a mind of hitting the gym this morning. This morning came and went and I haven’t been anywhere near the gym. My whole body is still aching and if I can muster up some energy, I might make it to one of the classes tonight. Otherwise, there’s always tomorrow morning. After all, didn’t they suggest two days on, one day rest? Or perhaps I’m just consoling myself.

Why am I torturing myself? Well, I do get some satisfaction from feeling the ache of lactic acid in my muscles, as crazy as it may seem. But the main reason is so I can look good in my wedding dress. The things we do for the sake of vanity. Well, they say that we can do anything if we just have a strong enough reason to do it. Let’s see how strong a reason this wedding really is for me…
