I returned from Singapore on Monday morning to get all my things together for the photo shoot that was to take place on Tuesday. True to the spirit of “in the nick of time”, Monday night saw C and I on our last minute shopping errands to get his tie and the wedding band.
At 7:45pm, we arrived at KLCC, tried out a few rings, and settled on a three colour gold band that was a little too large. “We need it urgently,” C explained to the salesman.
He flashed us a relaxed smile and calmly replied, “Not to worry, we can have it resized for pick up tomorrow.”
An amused laugh escaped from C’s lips. “Can it be ready by 7am?”
The salesman responded with a nervous laugh, “That’s a little too early.”
We agreed to take the ring for the shoot and return to get it resized in a couple of days time. After that it was straight to the shops to hunt down a gold tie.
We made it home by 10pm. I finally got around to the manicure at about 11pm. Thanks to a talented sister-in-law who helped me paint my nails, I managed to get to bed by about midnight. Left to my own devices, I was pretty sure I would have dumped the idea about the nails.
Who would have thought it was so hard to look good? The photos below depict my nails after completion. By Tuesday morning, I’d already lost one of the flower petals on my middle finger.
The weather held up long enough for us to get through the first shoot at Batu Caves. It felt pretty weird at first, puckering up and holding the pose for about two minutes. There were a couple of jumping shots that felt a little strange, too.
The climbing shots were the easiest. At least I was in my element at that stage. We also bumped into Y, who shouted an “allez” as I tied in to start climbing and things started to feel pretty natural at that stage.
Luckily we stuck to the easy wall, because I was bouldering without chalk and when I had to pose for the camera, I had to hang on for a while until they could get the right shot. Even a jug can be tiring to hold on to when you have to contort your body in all manner of positions and smile like you don’t feel a strain in your muscles. Last, but not least, for someone who sweats buckets, I had to climb without breaking a sweat for fear of ruining my mascara.
When I came home, no trace of lipstick could be found and I’d sweated off half my foundation. In the shower, I had a frustrating time wrestling with my hair for there had to have been about fifty pins and a can of hairspray in there. By the time I was done brushing my half, half of it must have ended up on the bathroom floor.
Yup. It’s tough looking good.
Before we could get to the second makeup session, the rain pelted down and we were forced to postpone the shoot to a later date. Whilst I started the day with some feelings of excitement, I don’t really know if I was relieved or disappointed about having to postpone. I guess the up side is that at least I have some recovery time for the skin on my fingers to grow back, after they were shredded off while I was climbing.
