Review: Yoga Zone Fat Burning DVD

Published by figur8 at 5:47 pm under Fitness, exercise, yoga

After another weekend of over-indulging - yet again - I decided to give the Yoga DVDs that my SIL recommended a go.  This was the first DVD I tried:

Yoga zone: Fat Burning

I managed to stave off my son’s incessant need for my full attention with Thomas the Tank Engine long enough for me to complete not one 20 minute session but two!  Amazing!  I wonder if Thomas can baby-sit him again the next time I want to work out?  We’ll see…

The basic idea of Yoga Zone’s Fat Burning workout is to use more yoga movements to heat up the body and burn fat.  The workout is aimed at beginner to intermediate Yoga exercisers, which I think is a fair target.  In both workouts, they had a harder option and a simpler option that users can select based on their level.

Having not worked out in quite a while, I found even the simpler options a challenge.  However, I did feel capable of tackling the second workout after the first one concluded so perhaps I didn’t work hard enough in the first session?  By the time I was halfway through the second session, I was ready to call it quits.  My legs were pretty wobbly when I tried to carry my son down the stairs so they were definitely working hard during the workout.  I was also sweating quite profusely throughout the exercises, despite having the air conditioner running, so I presume that as far as fat burning went, I must have achieved some of it…

What do I think about Yoga Zone Fat Burning DVD?

Having tried other Yoga DVDs before, I think there isn’t really enough explanation on the specific pose we’re trying to achieve.  Half the time, I had to crane my neck to check if I was doing the right thing - which obviously meant that I wasn’t.  There is a lot of detail that gets glossed over which isn’t good if you happen to be new to Yoga.  Even though they were trying to fit in a lot into a 20 minute session, I felt they should have included a foreword and some demonstrations for correct Yoga breathing and postures - something they could easily incorporate into the start of all their beginner level DVDs.

Other than that, I felt it was a pretty effective workout.  Whether it is enough to burn fat - well, only time will tell.
