How Do You Know If You’re Hardcore

Published by figur8 at 4:50 pm under humour, rock climbing

At the peak of the Rockrats craze for rock climbing, Holdbreaker sent the following list out to the group through email. The not so funny thing is that a lot of it was true for most of us back then.

YOU KNOW YOU’RE HARDCORE (ROCK CLIMBER) IF:

Your rack costs more than the car.

You sold your car to buy the rack.

You’ve got more climbing shoes than going out shoes.

Climbing is your idea of a date.

You have a chin up bar in the kitchen.

You use chalk instead of a bandaid.

You’ll wash the rope but not the clothes.

You reserve the piece of cloth to clean up the gear and not your behind.

You forget the toothbrush but not the nail-clipper.

You spend more time figuring out the moves…, not what to say.

“Daisy” means ladder.

Stitch means belay device.

Flying reminds you of an ATC.

Stinger are shoes.

Hillary means Everest not Mrs Clinton.

A runner is not associated with athletics.

It’s not a solemn affair to say “Jesus Christ”.

“F***” means you’re about an inch away from dead.

You’re favourite pair of shoes look like your daughter’s ballet slippers.

You say she has a great rack and you don’t mean her bust.

You know how to say “hello” in about 5 different languages.

You know how to say “help” in about 15.

Jam is not something you spread over bread.

You think that a dry crack is better than a wet one.

The only lubricant you need is WD40.

Walnuts are not for eating (wild country or DMM “wall nuts”)

Your answer to camalot is, “a protection device used by climbers to halt a fall”.

Petzl is correct spelling.

You’re forearms are bigger than your calves.

You understood all of the above.
