A jack of all trades, I am a wife, a mother, a blogger, an aspiring writer, and an entrepreneur. Over the course of my life I have also been an athlete, a rock climber, and a health professional.
From a tender age of sixteen, I have aspired to be a writer. Timid and insecure, I was embarrassed to show my work to others. Never having the heart to follow my dreams to become a writer, I jumped on a band wagon and studied to be a dentist at The University of Melbourne in Australia. After a year of practice, I left the profession to join the health industry where I worked for various companies such as 3M, Roche Pharmaceutical, and Colgate-Palmolive.
All this while I still dreamt of becoming a writer. Having read a short biography about Frank Herbert who had vast array of experiences in many areas, I decided I needed to experience more in my life if I wanted to become a writer. I made it my quest in life to explore new pursuits and undertake various adventures in my spare time. For the first time in my life I went hiking and caving, I ran a marathon, and I started rock climbing in earnest.
It was during this period of exploration that I discovered an avid passion for rock climbing. Over the next two years, I spent countless hours at rock climbing gyms and the local crag which had fast become my second home. I made three pilgrimages to Krabi to climb at the heart of rock climbing in Asia. Discovering an ability to achieve an excellence in sports that had eluded me all through my childhood and teenage years, I was slowly beginning to understand the power of desire and self-confidence. I realised that I could achieve anything I wanted in life so long as I gave it sufficient focus and attention.
Despite gaining a better insight into myself, I felt unfulfilled. I drifted aimlessly through the river of life without course. I took a break from the workforce to “rediscover” myself. During that break, I got married and became a mother. The arrival of motherhood brought with it a real meaning to my life - my son. I knew my purpose in life was, first and foremost, to raise my son.
I chose not to return to the workforce as I felt it was unconducive to raising a child in the manner I desired. A firm believer in evidence-based parenting, I spent much of my pregnancy reading the differing theories on raising a baby. I found the methods of attachment parenting resonating with my maternal instincts and chose a parenting style in keeping with the Sears’ philosophies and the findings from Margot Sunderland’s Science of Parenting.
Although my priorities lie in raising my son, I also believe that there should be a part of my life that belonged solely to me to create whatever I wish. Additionally, I did not want my son to be deprived of the luxuries in life because we were reliant upon a single income. Therefore, I utilise my spare time developing my writing, blogging and working on my internet home businesses.
