When I was a kid, I used to love the idea of horse-back riding. I’ve only ever been twice but I enjoyed both experiences thoroughly. I didn’t really know what I was doing but it was fun enough. The horses were pretty much taught to follow the horse in front so we didn’t really need to know what we were doing anyway.
The other riders looked pretty impressive dressed in jodphurs and riding boots, using their own english saddles. I fancied myself getting some real equipment but I’m afraid my horse-riding days were rather short-lived. My parents were rather over-protective about the whole thing. In fact, I was quite surprised that they let me go twice!
Ah, well, having experienced horse-back riding twice was enough experience under my belt to write my novel so I didn’t really bother pushing the issue again after that. Note to self: don’t be so overprotective when it’s my children’s turn to engage in such activities…
