I can’t remember where I read about it or heard about it, but there’s a book called, “Law of Attraction: The Science of Attracting More of What You Want and Less of What You Don’t” by Michael Losier. It’s said that “The Secret” is the concept and Losier’s book is the “how-to”. Although I’d already started implementing my own methods of applying “The Secret” to my life, I decided I’d take a quick look at Losier’s book.
Losier’s book is simple and easy to read. Outlining step by step how to apply the Law of Attraction to your life, Michael explains why The Secret works for some people and not for others. It has to do with the way we apply three steps of “The Secret” to our lives.
1. Ask - everyone does this. We wish for a better job, a better relationship, more money, good health.
2. Believe - this is where a lot of people fall short. We can do step one easily, but step two is our stumbling block because we don’t have the faith that what we ask for will come to us. This is also where the sceptics fall short - by nature of the fact that they are sceptics means that they will not experience The Secret for themselves and therefore remain sceptics. It’s a catch twenty-two really.
3. Receive - there are those who ask and they believe but they still don’t get anything because they don’t know how to allow the Law of Attraction to work in their lives.
Losier offers step by step instructions to overcome the barriers that prevent us from experiencing the Law of Attraction in our lives. The first step involves gaining clarity through contrast. Often when we think about what we want, we think about what we don’t want. The Law of Attraction doesn’t hear negatives. It gives us what we concentrate on. So when we say we don’t want something, we end up getting more of it because the Law of Attraction doesn’t hear “don’t”, it only registers that we’re thinking about it. Gaining clarity through contrast allows us to list all the things we don’t want and then rephrase these negatives into positives.
For example, I don’t like being broke all the time becomes, I love having lots of money.
Step two is our desire statement. It is one thing to know what we want but if we don’t feel that what we say is real, we create doubt and doubt brings negativity. This is where the Law of Attraction contrasts from the idea that the Law of Attraction is just positive thinking. If the Law of Attraction were simply just positive thinking, then if we were to repeat a statement often enough, we should get it. So why don’t we? It has to do with whether we really believe that statement.
For example, if you were to say, “I always win the lottery,” you are probably not likely to experience it because you don’t really believe this statement. The statement itself casts doubts because it doesn’t feel real. If you’ve spent your whole life thinking that the probability of winning the lottery is extremely low, then chances are this statement won’t ring true to you. Because the statement doesn’t feel real, you don’t send out the positive vibrations necessary to draw the winning ticket into your life.
The third step is allowing. This is a lot harder than it sounds. When we don’t get what we seek, it is often due to the fact that we haven’t allowed it into our lives. To remove all the doubts in our minds, we need to create allowing statements that change the way we feel about things. Allowing statements are usually made about third parties.
For instance, an allowing statement for the lottery example would be: “someone wins the lottery everyday.” By creating lots of allowing statements, you are acknoledging to yourself that such things happen, even if they haven’t happened to you yet, they do happen so they can happen to you, too.
These worksheets are available free from the Law of Attraction website. They are also printed in the book which explains in greater detail how to use them along with examples.
So I guess this explains why we didn’t win the lottery. Although I asked for it, I knew my doubts were there. After years of telling myself that the odds of winning the lottery are slim to none, it’s a little hard to get my mind around believing it can happen to me. If it’s any sign that I wanted it to work out, our number was very close to the winning number for first prize. In fact, it’s even possible that I sent out the wrong vibrations because I’ve been thinking all day of a number that would come out in first prize. The winning number was a cross between the number the hubby bought and the number I thought of today.
I’ve decided that to build up my experiences with the Law of Attraction, I am going to work on lots of smaller things. As they start to add up, my belief and faith in the Law of Attraction will grow and with it, the ability to apply it to bigger things I desire. I’m also starting to use the worksheets I downloaded from the Law of Attraction website.
It’s also interesting to note that the Law of Attraction covers the other 6 Essential Laws mentioned on the website The 7 Essential Laws.

[...] Michael Losier recommends doing this by creating a desire statement that you can look at and think a…. The important thing about the desire statement is that you mustn’t write anything that you don’t feel is true. For instance, you can’t write down: “I’m rich” when at the back of your mind, your house mortgage and car loans are weighing heavily on your mind. Because you know it’s not true, you won’t be sending off the positive vibes you need to make it come true. Therefore you need to write true statements that help you focus on what you want and still make you feel good. So instead of writing: “I’m rich”, you could write: “I love the idea of being rich”.
