After reading about the Christmas decorations at Midvalley Megamall, I decided to brave the crowds with the hubby to take a peek. Ordinarily, the both of us would never dream of shopping at Midvalley on a weekend, let alone a public holiday, but the papers were talking about life-sized gingerbread houses and the child in me just could not resist.
Of all the years I’ve been in Malaysia, it appears to me that this year’s festive decorations far surpasses anything I’ve ever seen in previous years. It was quite reminiscent of the Christmas decorations I remember from my childhood Down Under. And of all the Christmas decorations I’ve seen at various shopping centers this year, I would have to say that the sight at Midvalley was by far the best.
I went rather snap happy on the camera and was looking forward to uploading my pictures today when the internet connection decided to get sluggish on me. It seemed curious that all the international sites were either not connecting or if they were, the connection was extremely unreliable and terribly slow. I wasn’t able to connect to Flickr to upload any photos and since Blogger is running rather slowly, I got a little impatient waiting. I guess the Christmas sights at Midvalley will have to wait for another day.
I tried calling my internet service provider only to find that the helplines were all engaged. Fancy that, an engaged hotline. I made the presumption that everyone else was probably also experiencing the same sluggishness in connectivity for some unknown breakdown. Given the past history of unreliability of this ISP, it came as no surprise to me but rather more of an inconvenience. Many times in the past, I have been tempted to change my ISP and today’s incident prompted that thought again.
It seemed curious that some sites were functioning while others weren’t. What came as a bigger surprise was that the local websites were running more quickly! Now that was a new experience!
When I finally got through to my ISP’s hotline, I received a voice recorded message informing me that the access to overseas websites were disrupted due to an earthquake in Southern Taiwan. True enough, The Star reported the disruption that took place about 3-4am this morning and that there would be delays accessing websites that were hosted overseas, particularly the ones in United States, Japan, China, Taiwan, Korea and Europe.
Well, that pretty much covers most of the usual websites I normally surf.
The good thing is Google is still functioning and obviously so is Blogger, otherwise I wouldn’t even be able to post this.
