Some time back I bought and downloaded the MP3 recording of Thomas and Friends: The Railway Stories Volume 1 narrated by Michael Angelis and recorded by BBC to play for Gavin to listen to in the car. The intention was to help him to cooperate in the carseat and it worked very well. There are only two faults I can find with it:
1. You can only burn it to CD twice. After that, you have to purchase the rights again to burn more copies. I need more than two copies – four to be exact. One for my car, one for the hubby’s car, one for Ah Kong’s car and one for Ah Mah’s car. Plus with Gavin insisting on handling the disc so often – dropping it and wiping saliva-coated fingers on it - having a couple pf backup copies is definitely recommended.
2. It records as one track on the CD so every time you put the disc into the player, you have to start from the first story all over again. If you want to skip ahead to the other stories, you have to use the fast-forward function – which is annoying. After hearing the first story over and over again, Gavin would start protesting, “No Edward, no Edward!” He would insist on hearing a new story.
However, apart from these two minor negatives, the CD has been an extremely very useful tool for encouraging carseat cooperation. Then again, Gavin is becoming a lot more receptive to the carseat these days so I don’t know if that also contributed to the great cooperation I have been witnessing lately…
