Babylicious is a blog about developing children and learning how to maximise their potential. We believe that at the heart of every child is the potential to change the world and that it is our responsibility as parents and educators to help our children realise that potential.
It is often accepted that a good parent is one who is able to raise a child who stays on the right side of the law, has a good job and is a “functional” member of society. Such a person might be defined as a successful person. I am sure every parent aspires to raise such a person.
However, raising a child to become a successful individual is only one part of the equation. What would success be without balance in life and emotional stability? It is entirely possible to raise a child who is successful but also depressed and insecure. Therefore, at Babylicious, the goal is not only to nurture our children’s inner Einstein, Picasso, Mozart, or Da Vinci, it is also to establish a strong foundation so that our children may become happy and confident adults. It is our highest aspiration to raise children who are:
- able to form deep and meaningful relationships with others
- kind and polite
- smart
- healthy
- able to make wise choices
- able to think and act morally
- confident
- comfortable with his or her sexuality
- able to communicate well
- joyful in his or her attitude
(Definition of a “successful child” – from Sears and Sears)
In this day and age where one often reads about the ever increasing incidence of depression, road rage, teenage suicides, eating disorders, and “insert psychological or social condition”, we must question what we – the parents – can do to help nurture our children to become more resilient to such problems.
In this blog, you will read about:
- attachment parenting
- baby-wearing
- co-sleeping
- extended breastfeeding
- non-violent discipline/positive parenting
- natural infant hygiene and cloth diapers
- baby sign language
- early childhood development and education
It should be noted that most discussions on infants and toddlers were addressed in the male context. This is because both my children are boys. Had one of them been born a girl, I would have been written with a female in context as well. If you have any questions, thoughts, or feedback, feel free to leave comments under each blog post or drop me a line.
