Review: Trinity Kids @Verve – Nursery, Playschool, and Preschool

I’ve been asked a few times to recommend some preschools. Seeing as I only have two boys – one of which has left the preschool scene entirely, and the other is on his way out – I can only really tell you about the ones that my boys attended and the ones that I considered for them when I was searching for preschools myself. This is one that I recommend – Trinity Kids.

Why Trinity Kids?

Hercules is a very active boy. It was evident fairly early on that we needed to let him move around to help him expel some of that restless energy. Once we did that, it was easier for him to settle down. Otherwise, he would be scaling the walls and getting into all manner of troubles.

At the time when I discovered Trinity Kids, I was exploring a new-ish shopping mall – Publika – and checking out what programs and activities they had available for children. The intention had not been to look for a playchool as I already had one in mind for Hercules. Since that school was not yet operational, I was simply biding our time while we waited for them to open their doors and for Hercules to be ready for potty training (since that was a pre-requisite for the school – your child has to be potty trained).

Thinking they were a play gym, I went to investigate Trinity Kids (which was then known as Baby Jumper Gym) and I was surprised to discover that they were actually a preschool, playschool and nursery. What I saw that day interested me. I liked their education philosophy, which incorporate elements of Doman and Right Brain Education, while incorporating a strong a play-based approach with lots of opportunity for physical activity – something my son clearly required.

Hercules, unlike Aristotle, was only too eager to start school – I presume he wanted to be like his big brother who went off to school five days a week – so I signed him up for a trial month to see how he went. In the back of my mind, I was thinking to transfer him to the other school as soon as they (and Hercules) were ready but he took to the school so well, and we were very pleased with how the school operated, so it was decided in the end not to move him.

About Trinity Kids

Trinity Kids is a Nursery, Playschool and Preschool offering a variety of programs for children from the age of 2 months all the way to 6 years. Their programs are available full-time (5 days a week), part-time (3 days a week), half-day (until 12:30pm) and full-day (until 6pm). They offer an international curriculum that provides children exposure to the three main languages in Malaysia – English, Chinese, and Bahasa Malaysia. Trinity Kids boasts an early childhood experience that will ensure your child’s readiness for any primary school of your choosing.

Trinity Kids adopts a three-pronged approach to early childhood:

1. A Holistic Program: Trinity Kids offer a robust international curriculum covering Language & Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Arts & Craft, Music & Movement, Chinese, Bahasa Malaysia, Encyclopedic Knowledge, Financial Literacy and Technology

In short, we hope to provide a rigorous curriculum to prepare our students well for any stream of primary education, while retaining a strong element of play and offering trilingual immersion of English, Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia. While English is the medium of communication, Chinese and BM are offered as subjects. There is also a weekly Chinese appreciation class and (optional) intensive Chinese preparation classes. Intelligence is measured by the amount of knowledge one possess. We want our student to be academically prepared, to possess a wealth of general and encyclopedic knowledge. – Trinity Kids

The Encyclopedic Knowledge program incorporates a thematic approach to learning and understanding the world around us.

2. A Wholesome Diet: Trinity Kids offers artisanal meals created with fresh, quality, organic, free range, antibiotic-free or locally sourced ingredients.

Our original recipes have been published in parenting magazines with positive feedback. Our menu, specially designed to optimise your child’s moods and general development, varies weekly to keep our little customers excited. The meals are cooked lovingly on site by mothers for your child. – Trinity Kids

3. Whole-hearted Care: Trinity Kids adopts a philosophy whereby every child is loved, cared for and given room to grow and blossom.

It takes a village to raise a child. We strive to be open, provide ample communication and build a community with our parents. – Trinity Kids

About Trinity Kids Founder and Owner

To write about Trinity Kids without making mention of its founder and owner would be to tell half a story because the dynamic personality behind this school is an amazing lady. The person responsible for bringing us Trinity Kids is Daisy Ng, a mother of two with a Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Montessori) and a certified Dr Sears Wellness Institute Health Coach (Child & Family Nutrition). One of the most remarkable things about Daisy is her dedication and commitment to early childhood education. In fact, Daisy is so passionate about it that she left an illustrious career in banking and finance so that she could open an early childhood education center that her own daughter attends because she couldn’t find one that met her standards and expectations.

Trinity Kids Programs

1. Nursery

  • Baby Class – 2m-12m (Ratio 2:1)
  • Pre-tots Class – 13m-17m

Trinity Kids Nursery programs are led by a team of teachers and nannies, offering a stimulative care environment with activities, such as music and movement, baby signing, Montessori activities, baby massage and yoga.

Hercules never attended the nursery programs at Trinity Kids, however, based on what I know about them, I think that if I had to leave my baby at a nursery, I would be happy with the program at Trinity Kids because they adopt an individually customised approach to handling each baby so that your baby will have a personalised schedule that follows his or her sleep and diet. Once your child is ready to start solids, Trinity Kids will meet with you to customise meal plans for your baby.

2. Playschool

  • Tots Class – 18m – 2 yrs (Ratio 5:1)
  • Nursery 1 Class – 3 yrs (Ratio 15:1)

Trinity Kids Playschool is the most popular entry level. In these classes there is a fixed daily schedule of activities for the children covering Language & Literacy (phonics, vocabulary builder, speech & drama, book of the month), Numeracy, Chinese, Music & Movement, Arts & Craft, Encyclopedic Knowledge, Value of Money (for Nursery 1 class only), Science (for Nursery 1 class only), Gym and Play.

3. Preschool

  • Nursery 2 – 4 yrs
  • Kindergarten 1 – 5 yrs
  • Kindergarten – 6 yrs

Ratio 15:1

Trinity Kids Preschool program sets a strong foundation for students who will soon be embarking on various streams of primary education – local curriculum, Chinese curriculum or international curriculum. At this level, the children are learning Language & Literacy (phonics, grammar, speech & drama, book of the month), Numeracy, Science, Chinese, BM, Encyclopedic Knowledge, Technology, Value of Money, Music & Movement, Gym and Play.

Trinity Kids Staff

I found the team of teachers and assistants at Trinity Kids to be warm and friendly. They are open and inviting when receiving questions and concerns from parents and they are prompt to discuss issues relating to the children. They also regularly update the parents about the day’s events and they share photos from time to time so we can get a glimpse of our child’s day at school.

One of the key factors that I believe to be a vital consideration when selecting a preschool is how well my child interacts with his teachers. It has been reassuring to hear Hercules speak fondly of his teachers and to watch him greet them enthusiastically at the beginning and end of the day. I also like the fact that the staff at Trinity Kids has remained fairly consistent since the day Hercules first joined them. This is particularly important in the early years for a child like Hercules who needs stability in his environment because changes in routine can really upset him.

Trinity Kids has won a number of awards and has been featured in various media:
