Giveaway: Meet Your Artist Within Program

We send out children to music classes, art classes, and right brain education classes with the desire to help them develop their right brain. That is all well and fine but one of the best ways for a child to learn is from his parents. Most of us were raised in a left-brain centric environment and probably haven’t really exercised our right brain muscles since our last art class in Primary School. In a previous post, I wrote about the importance of right brain practice for parents and shared some right brain activities parents can do to help develop their right brain. If you enjoyed that, here is another fun way to flex your right brain muscles…

Meet Your Artist Within

Over the last four weeks, I have been participating in a course by Whitney Ferré entitled “Meet Your Artist Within“. It is a month-long program designed to help you get back in touch with your right brain and get creatively fit.

My initial intention for the course was to better understand my right brain so that I can help my children develop theirs. What I got out of it was a fresh perspective on my own life and a rediscovery of myself. Quite some time back I wrote about the importance of self-actualisation, particularly for Stay-at-Home-Mums (since a large part, if not all, of our lives revolve around the children), but it seems the arrival of my second son has virtually eliminated almost all of the “self” part.

As a mother, particularly since Gavin started his school holidays and has been home every day, I have been feeling physically and mentally exhausted from juggling my two boys. Taking some time out to do the simple activities on this Creatively Fit program was surprisingly therapeutic, especially once I’d stop keeping track of the time and thinking about all the things that were nagging me from my “to do” list.

I also introduced Gavin to the activities and he really enjoyed doing them. Every night he has been asking to stay up with me so he can “make faces” (one of the activities I was assigned to do) or do “important work” (as I had labeled it). It was a great way for us to share “special time” together as it has been evident that he is going through another wave of sibling rivalry and feeling threatened by his brother’s presence. Since we started working on the program together, I have noticed that Gavin has also been inspired to do more with his drawings, with a new focus on “faces”.

What’s in the Meet Your Artist Within Program

Each week, Whitney sends an email with your instructions for the week containing four elements for you to watch, ponder, absorb and do. The program is simple and you can spend as much time or as little time as you want on it. For busy individuals, the weekly timing is a good pace. If you can afford more time, you might find yourself rearing for more before the week is over.

The “Meet Your Artist Within” program is designed to help you discover the artist in your life so that you can support your children’s creativity. It is a terrific introductory course on developing creativity through art. There are also other programs at Whitney’s Creatively Fit school that you can do with your children.

About Whitney Ferré

It would be incomplete to write this review without giving some mention to Whitney Ferré, the inspirational owner of Creatively Fit who is a mother of three, co-owner of a wine bar, author, art teacher and painter. You might also be surprised to discover that Whitney started Creatively Fit with no background in art.

Whitney’s achievements are testimony for what any individual can do with her life if she is willing to search for that hidden potential locked away in her under-utilised right brain. She discovered all this as an adult which means there is hope for all of us who might feel ourselves stuck in dead-end jobs, living unfulfilled lives.

  1. This would be great! I am contemplating returning to school for an art major. This would be just what I need to get back in the game since most of my time has been devoted to my little guy!

  2. Interesting concept, looking forward to reading more about it.

  3. I have a little girl who loves nothing more than to paint, glitter, stamp and draw more than anything in the world. I would love to help her with her creative side as it is just such a fun way to learn. I have started teaching her shapes (polygons) through doing art and craft. I cut out the shapes talk to her about the shapes but she has to create a picture out of them. She has learnt a great deal and she loves this form of teaching she is very responsive to it.

  10. Wow! Help me find my inner artist :)

  11. Wow, it’s terrific to see the interest!

Whitney – thank you for a wonderful program! I am so glad I did it! :-) It is so true – it is so easy for a mother to lose herself because we are constantly being required to give, give, give all the time. It is good to claim back a little something for ourselves. I think it is better for our families as well that we do.

I think that old adage is so true – “you can’t take care of others if you don’t take care of yourself first”.

Hashim – maybe Whitney could help you out there…

  12. LM is getting an easel for Christmas. Using it myself? Hmmm, there’s a thought! I did register for the newsletter, so please keep me in!
