According to developmental milestone charts, toddlers aged 3 generally engage in parallel play. Well, I’d like to question this one because last year my friend and I witnessed Gavin (2 years 10 months) and his godbrother, D, (2 years) collaborating to get a toy that was placed out of their reach. The two of them had pushed a child-sized table up against the bar. Subsequently D held the table while Gavin climbed up to get the toy.
Parallel play? I don’t think so…

Recently, I read an article that mentioned babies are found to be interested in babies and ‘parallel play’ may be an incorrect observation in past studies.
Anyway, my boy loves babies and toddlers since he could sit up; he can spot a young child and would get very excited, calling out to him/her and wanting to touch his/her limbs.

Interesting. I’d love to read the article if you still remember where you read it from.

The Child Development Institute listed parallel play as up to 3 years on their milestone chart – which is also what childwiki states. I guess it depends on the child.
