A Little Shameless Self-Promotion…

Further to my previous post on self-actualisation, this is what I have been doing to further my own personal development…
I’ve been busy lately. My Cordon Bleu chef SIL and her French beau (who is also a chef, incidentally) are back from Australia and they have just started a business in the food industry. It is going to be a combined Cafe and Catering joint, but currently, only the catering component is functional.
Wanting to be of assistance, I offered my limited website development skills to help set up her website. She accepted, although I’m not sure if it was more because she didn’t want to offend me or because she really wanted to cut costs. I’m sure she was more than mildly alarmed when she saw the first drafts for her website. That was when I decided it was time to ditch all my heroic efforts to learn the code and create a website the conventional way.
I shelved the programming books, put on my creative thinking hat and came up with this:
Despite the numerous shortcuts and tricks I employed to achieve the end result, I am nevertheless shamelessly proud of “my creation”. Please visit the site, share your thoughts (please – nothing critical about the design because I doubt I would be able to fix it anyway) and place an order for some of the delectable goodies The Haute Food Co has on its catering menu.
Aside from this, I have been working hard to establish myself as a recognised writer. I keep a writing blog to monitor my progress on this front and have recently started to focus on producing articles for a writer’s site called Helium. Unfortunately, there are only so many hours a night I can divert from sleep to work on this, so my progress has been slow. It is almost impossible to write anything valuable during the day because my son usually interrupts by climbing onto my lap and helping me “type” or he tugs my hand and asks me to play with him. Alternatively, he distracts me by constantly asking me questions which disrupt the flow of my thoughts.
I’ve always had a desire to become a writer in my youth. Of course, back then, the desire was to write fiction. Having failed to come up with any fantastic story ideas of the likes of JK Rowling, I’ve turned my hand towards writing articles. Not only has it been easier, but I’ve also discovered to my delight that I’m not half bad at it.
It has been difficult to find something to replace my hobby of rock climbing from which I used to derive enormous pleasure, but I think writing comes pretty close to it.

Actually, it’s more like a cafe. It’s opening at the ground level of Plaza Damas – same row as 7eleven, next to the Nasi Kandar shop. It’s one row away from the entrance to Hartamas shopping center.
It isn’t officially open right now – expected to open some time this month though… I’ll post a notice when it’s open.
Yes! I definitely intend to take the boys rock climbing… Just waiting for them to be old enough

She’s hoping to be officially open by tomorrow. It is all pending the completion of the renovations right now, but she’ll definitely be open this weekend.
