We’ve been painting again. In a way it is a good thing that this is an activity that Gavin enjoys on a blue moon occasion and gets bored of it quickly if we do it too often. Cleaning up after every session is literally a back-breaking experience now that I’m pregnant.
Here are a few tips I’ve learned about cleaning up after an art session:
- Crayola finger paints are easier to wash off compared to the Pelikan ones.
- Soaking the stamps and brushes in a large bucket of water for 10-20 minutes first makes it a lot easier to wash off all the paint.
- Painting with lots of different stamps may be fun, but cleaning up after is a real b****.
Then again, since I’d already invested in all these art supplies for Gavin, it seemed a waste not to use them all during each art session. Since art sessions are few and far between, let’s not be lazy about cleaning up either.

Another thing I discovered after this session of painting is that Pelikan paints wash off clothes very easily. Gavin insisted on painting in his Thomas and Friends t-shirt and made a big mess in it. I half expected to have a few stains which I fully intended to use as an example to Gavin for his stubbornness but they washed off completely! Good news for Gavin and Pelikan.
During Gavin’s most recent art session, I decided to dig up Gavin’s old paintings and make something interesting with them. We used the letter stamps to turn them into dedicated art works. This was one of Gavin’s earliest first paintings ever which we dedicated to Ah Koh:

This one was to Ah Mah and Ah Kong:

This was to Dee Koh:

And this most recent painting is for Kai Yeh and Kai Mah:

It was good to note that Gavin is getting the hang of using the stamps on his own and making his own pictures. Unfortunately, he still has a habit of scratching out whatever he’s painted with more paint after. The lettering, however, was assisted by me.
I framed the pictures with some frames from IKEA and turned them into gifts for Gavin’s favourite people. I thought they were rather interesting abstract art works, don’t you think?
