Funny Saturday – the Value of a Pack of Nuggets

Gavin, my SIL2 and I were in KLCC waiting for an elevator.  We often play a game with Gavin to see who can guess which elevator will arrive first.  Since there are normally two elevators, we let Gavin decide first and choose the other one.

As it is in the world of adults, we have an advantage over Gavin because we can predict which elevator has the highest likelihood of arriving first by looking at the digital panel that displays what floor the elevator is on.  Gavin, unfortunately, hasn’t cottoned on to that one yet.

On this day, my SIL2 knew her elevator would open first, so she boldly said, “You wanna put some money on that?”

“Yes!” Gavin replied.

When my SIL2’s elevator arrived, she jokingly said, “I won so I get all your Milo nuggets.”

Gavin flew into a panic, crying, “No!  Koh Koh (that’s aunt in Hokkien) can’t eat my Milo nuggets!”  He practically screamed this in an elevator full of people!  He was so upset that I had to calm him down by telling him the bet wasn’t valid since Koh Koh did not name the stakes before the bet was won.

It was only a packet of chocolate nuggets but from the way Gavin reacted, you could have been forgiven for thinking they were gold nuggets.  It’s interesting what children value as prized objects.

SIL2 – yeah, at the time it seemed like a classic, but when I got down to writing the post, it didn’t seem quite as funny as it was in the elevator somehow…

Valerie – er, I wouldn’t know. I only discovered Milo nuggets when Gavin decided to become a Milo boy.
