Gavin Recommends – The Little Einsteins

Hello! I see you're new here. Welcome to Babylicious! You might like to subscribe to my RSS feed to get regular updates on what's new at Babylicious. Thanks for visiting!

When Gavin was really little and starting to watch TV shows, I was really keen on getting him interested in The Little Einsteins because I liked the way it taught children about art, music, geography and general knowledge.  Unfortunately, Gavin didn’t seem to think they were at all very interesting.  He much preferred to watch shows like Mickey Mouse Club House.  Even Tigger and Pooh wasn’t really that big of a hit with him.  After that he moved on to Thomas and Friends in a huge way and that was the end of everything else.

Up until his recent trip down under, he was only interested in watching Thomas and Friends and Signing Time on TV.  Beyond these two programs, everything else was a hit and miss.  Even if he did enjoy them, it was only for a short spell.  Everything changed after he saw this DVD:

It appears I’m still on the Oral B mailing list in Australia ever since they took down my name when I was in Dental School.  I received this DVD in the mail which is a short educational program about the importance of children’s teeth.  It also contained a music video of some children singing and dancing about “brushing your teeth two minutes, twice a day”.  Oral B also bought the rights to include an episode of Tigger and Pooh and The Little Einsteins.

Although Gavin enjoys watching both programs, he seems to have developed a stronger preference for The Little Einsteins.  When ever he wanted to watch it, he would tell me he wanted to watch “Rocket” (who is red rocket that carries the Little Einsteins on each of their missions).

When it became clear that his interest was more than a passing one, I went out and bought him a new DVD.

It was such a hit, that I also bought the books (which, incidentally, are cheaper than Thomas and Friends).  Gavin enjoys hearing the stories from the books so much that he often asks to have them read to him over and over again.  His favourite is Music of the Meadow, followed by Leo’s Baton (which he calls “Weo’s Ton”).

Although the books don’t capture the music and art essence from the TV series, I do like the way they teach kids stuff.  For instance, in Butterfly Suits, they explain about insects and how caterpillars turn into butterflies.  Out of all the programs shown on Play House Disney, I think The Little Einsteins is one of the more interesting and educational programs so I’m really glad Gavin has found an interest in the series.  If he’s going to be watching TV, I’d much rather he watch The Little Einsteins than Bunny Town.
