Train Soft Toys – Project C

Welcome back to Babylicious! Thanks for visiting again. If you've enjoyed reading my blog, subscribe to my RSS feed to get regular updates on what's new at Babylicious.

Yesterday, I made another train soft toy to add to Gavin’s small but growing collection of Thomas and Friends felt trains by Mum.  This time I made James – the red and splendid engine, who doesn’t look quite as splendid as I had imagined because I wasn’t quite sure how to connect him to his tender.  I suspect I’m going to run into the same trouble when I make Gordon and Henry.  Anyway, here’s James in natural lighting:

And here’s James with Percy and Thomas from Part 1 and Part 2:

Gavin examines the completed train for quality control:

It looks like James has passed the inspection:

Although I’m usually pretty proud of my needlework accomplishments (no matter how poor they might be), I wasn’t too happy about the way I connected James’ engine to his tender.  Hmmm… are my standards possibly increasing?  Perhaps the next time I should make the connection thicker so I can stuff cotton in there or do you think it works better this way?

One of the biggest joys of making soft toys for Gavin is the eagerness and excitement with which he greets his new toy.  He usually can’t wait for me to finish making his train and often tries to “help” me along the way.  Regardless of how ugly or poorly Mummy’s trains turn out, Gavin is always very supportive of my efforts.  He also always knows which train it is without me having to prompt him.

I’m not really a person who is all that fond of needlework but with such an avid fan of my craftwork, it’s hard not to make more for him.  His delight is reward enough for my efforts.

Just a suggestion… you can probably sew a button where the link is. Less work for you. :)

I don’t know about the less work bit, but it’s a great idea – thanks!
