Lilypie Breastfeeding Ticker

For some strange reason, Gavin has gone off his diapers.  Although I practice elimination communication (to a limited degree - at least, where the pooping part is concerned), I still require diapers to contain his urine.

Okay, he’s not exactly off his diapers, but he just refuses to let me put on his Mamy Poko disposables (which I use for night time and when we’re going out for an extended trip).  He still lets me use his Mommy’s Touch cloth diapers which leads me to wonder if there is something about the disposable diaper that makes him feel uncomfortable…?

Mamy Poko, being one of the most expensive brands on the market, was selected as our disposable diaper of choice because it came with the best recommendations from all our parent-friends.  It kept baby dry, it could hold a lot of urine and it rarely caused diaper rash - so although it came at a premium, we decided it was worth buying.

Gavin can tell me when he needs to poop - unless he is doing something he deems too important to interrupt with a trip to the bathroom, in which case he’ll just poop in his diaper and discreetly continue with his activities.  With my vastly improved sense of smell, I can usually sniff him out.

The one I’ve been having trouble with is when he needs to urinate.  I’ve asked him several times if he can tell me when he needs to pee, but so far it has been in vain.  I do know he can hold his pee because there are many times when I’ve opened his diaper to find it dry, only to have him pee on the spot or in the shower.

I recently bought him a couple of pairs of training pants, so let’s see how it goes…

Even at 2 Jack can only tell me after he’s peed. I think the developmental age for toilet training is 3. After mopping the kitchen twice, I put his diaper back on. Sigh… Will try again at 3.

We’re doing well with the pooping part, but the peeing part still needs work. I tried recently and I notice that Gavin is more responsive if he isn’t busy with something - e.g. playing with his toys.

He also seemed to get into the whole sitting on the potty game and pretending to pee. I think he found that really amusing. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get him to pee in the potty, though…

Just thought I’d try since he hates wearing the diaper so much…
