York House in BSC

Welcome back to Babylicious! Thanks for visiting again. If you've enjoyed reading my blog, subscribe to my RSS feed to get regular updates on what's new at Babylicious.

About a week back, I was shopping at Bangsar Shopping Complex with my SIL and we took a browse in a rather interesting toy shop called, “York House”.  It is located on the 2nd floor of Bangsar Shopping Center along Jalan Maarof.  I think it is the west wing – but if you take the escalators up to Level 2 from CoffeeBean, you should be able to find it near the golf shop.

Actually, I heard about York House from a friend some time back when I asked her about the giant floor jigsaw puzzle she bought for her daughter but I forgot all about it until I saw the jigsaw puzzles in the shop.

What I like about York House…

Aside from the usual toys, they also sell a range of unique toys that I haven’t seen anywhere else.  Okay, I confess, I’m biassed on this point because I happen to be partial to these sort of toys.

When he is older, I really want Gavin exposed to board games.  Partly because I really enjoyed playing them during my childhood and partly because I want to keep Gavin in touch with activities that do not totally revolve around technology.  I fear with the increasing usage of computers, mobile phones, PDAs and the other nifty gadgets we get attached to, my son might turn into a bigger geek than I am.

Nowadays, children as young as those in Primary School carry mobile phones.  I never even had a mobile phone until I had graduated from University and could afford to buy my own mobile.  Although I used computers in school, I didn’t have a laptop until I started working with 3M and even then it was a company laptop.  If I’m not mistaken, I’ve heard of children having to take laptops to school!

Before I start sounding like a dinosaur pining for the “good old days”, let me set the record straight.  I am all for the advancement of technology, I really am.  I’m just not sure I want my son’s life revolving completely around electronic circuitry.  I still have hopes of turning him into a pro-golfer… (kidding!)  Seriously though, I would like to encourage him to be an all-rounded, balance child with a good exposure to other things, rather than have him turn into a computer addict like his Mum (yes, I admit it).

Okay, I’m digressing…  York House also sells a lot of mind-puzzle games – another activity I’m particularly fond of – although most of these games are for children age 3 and above.  I’ve already started filing away in my mind the toys I intend to buy Gavin as soon as he’s old enough (or perhaps Mummy can have a go at it first?).

York House also sells children’s outdoor playground sets that look like plastic medieval castles.  They don’t have anything set up – the shop’s too small for that – but there are pictures behind the cashier.  Since Gavin enjoyed the slide in the playground so much, I think it would be nice to get him the slide set to put in our garden when our new house is ready.
