A Baby with OCD?

I never would have thought it possible but Gavin has been displaying a tendency for obsessive compulsive behaviours.  It started with the toys he rearranged when we were at Times Bookshop:

Then I noticed that he had a certain way of re-arranging the water bottles in our room so that they would sit on specific markings on the table.  If you interfere with where he places his things or move them, he gets very cross.  For instance, he would hang my hairtie on the knob of a specific kitchen cabinet and if someone moves it when he comes back to check on it, he’ll squeal with displeasure.

At night, he will take his pillow from his cot and place it in the spot between Mummy and Daddy’s pillow.  He likes his pillow to lie flat and if Mummy’s or Daddy’s pillow obstructs his pillow from lying flat, he’ll squeal until one of us moves our pillow to make space for his pillow.

In the book, The Wonder Weeks, they say that all children go through this phase where they insist on having things in a certain order or sequence. It is supposed to be a phase that they soon outgrow when they start to enjoy mixing things up.  I sort of thought that Gavin would be out of the sequences phase a long time ago, though.  I wonder if this behaviour in Gavin is inherent in his nature or just a phase he’s going through?

Well, maybe our boys take after us, then. I always was rather OCD about the alignment and placement of books on my bookshelf. It would drive me mad whenever someone borrowed my books and did not put them back properly.
