So I went back to Craft Haven to look for yellow felt to make the new wings for Gavin’s bumblebee costume and discovered that the foam sheets I bought for the first pair of wings also come in yellow.  I also found that the glitter glue pen comes in dark silver – which I thought would stand out better than black glitter – so I bought that instead.  (Note to SIL2: yeah, I read your comment on the earlier post but I’d already bought the materials prior so might as well use them, hey?)

Here are the new materials with the first pair of wings I made:

I traced an outline from the first pair of wings (just as a guideline because the consensus was that the first pair of wings were too large so I removed an inch around the border for the second pair of wings).  I used one of Gavin’s washable crayons to mark the foam sheet.

I cut the two layers together so that they would be more or less symmetrical:

Here are the wings after being painted with the glitter pen.  It looks a little white because the glue hasn’t dried out as yet.  It takes about six hours to dry fully so keep your wings some place safe from adventurous children.

Once the wings are dry, you can sew on press stud buttons to attach them to the romper.  Note: if you use the foam sheets for your wings, you will have to use multi-purpose adhesive to stick the buttons onto the wings because the foam tears if you pull on the stitches.  You’ll have to be a little more careful when removing the wings so that the buttons don’t peel off.  If you prefer to save yourself the hassle, then just use felt for the wings.  I chose to use foam because it has more body – I didn’t want Gavin to have floppy wings.

I know the pictures are terrible – that’s because my camera is in the workshop and I am unfamiliar with the hubby’s DSLR.  I figured some pictures would be better than none, so these are all I’ve got.  I have yet to take a picture of the final costume, so stay tuned for that one.
