When Choosing a Car Seat…

When I was pregnant, the hubby and I bought the Recaro Young Start car seat for Gavin thinking that because Recaro made car seats for racing, they would have one of the safest car seats around. The Young Start was on sale and also one of the more comfortable chairs we had seen, so the hubby and I thought it would be just perfect for Gavin.
As with a lot of baby products that are bought by first-time parents before the baby is born, I feel we made a mistake in choosing this chair for Gavin. Here are the reasons why:
- the chair is held in place by the car’s seat belt which is also used to secure the baby which means that the top of the chair can swing forwards in the event of an emergency break.
- the fact that you have to use the car’s seat belt to secure baby means you need a booster when baby is younger (see picture below) which can feel quite restrictive for the baby. After a while Gavin didn’t like the booster and would only sit in the carseat if we didn’t use the booster.
Ideally what we should bought was the Recaro Young Sport which comes with its own built in harness.
As they say: “Hindsight is always twenty twenty.”
