The Bumblebee Costume Part 2

Welcome back to Babylicious! Thanks for visiting again. If you've enjoyed reading my blog, subscribe to my RSS feed to get regular updates on what's new at Babylicious.
Project: Bumblebee has been abandoned. The consensus was that Gavin’s navy blue, white and yellow striped romper would not do for the base of his bumblebee costume so the hubby and I went back on the hunt. We were looking out for a romper that was either black and yellow striped, or full yellow (we were planning to sew on black ribbons).
I found a place in Sri Hartamas called the Party Shop which does costumes for hire. Unfortunately they don’t cater for babies. I did find some great party supplies – black and yellow balloons, a “Happy Birthday” banner and a one-year-old candle. There is also another shop that sells party stuff in Ikano called Party World. It is located on the lower ground level along the tunnel that leads to Ikea. They also have some costumes for children, but no bumblebees.
Recalling that my SIL and I once saw a bumblebee outfit in Sungei Wang, hubby and I decided to check if they still had them. Within ten minutes of entering the shopping complex, we were walking away with a bumblebee costume for Gavin. I confess I have never really liked shopping at Sungei Wang previously because I dislike the layout of the place and the fact that it is always so crowded.
The shop with the costumes is located near the bridge connecting to Lot 10. The bumblebee costume cost us RM32. They also sell other costumes, like a tiger, lady bug, spiderman costume plus others that I can’t recall at the moment. At least I know where to go the next time I want to find another costume for Gavin…
The picture above is what the bumblebee costume looks like, although this one is a bit too large for Gavin. We exchanged it for a smaller size and I’ll take photos of what it looks like after I make some modifications to it. The hubby didn’t like the organza wings – it looks a little too fairy like for his son, I guess – so I was planning to use the wings I made for project: bumblebee.
In retrospect, I should have bought the gold glitter because this reddish brown colour doesn’t seem to match the bumble bee’s bright yellow. I’m planning to get the yellow felt squares and use black glitter for the veins. This is the tube of glitter glue that I used to paint the veins on the wings:
The cheapest option is to buy loose glitter and stick it onto the wings with craft glue. The downside is that the glitter flakes off. Glitter Touch is a little more expensive but the up side is that the glitter doesn’t flake off.
I’ll post more pictures of the bumblebee costume when I’ve put the finishing touches, so watch this space…

Heya SIL,
Just thought I’d help with a suggestion in terms of making sure the glitter doesn’t flake off when use loose glitter with craft glue.
If you mix 7 parts of school glue (i.e. the clear glue that kids use for their school projects) with 1 part water (to make it easier to paint) you make an amazing gloss finish for your art piece. Just paint it all over your creation after the glitter glue has dried and it makes sure that the glitter doesn’t flake off AND glossier wings
I can’t wait for Mr. Bumblebee’s birthday
xoxoxo Much love
