I have discovered one of the additional benefits to being a mother…
While we were in Australia, my SIL was preparing a sandwich of peanut butter, banana and honey. After taking a bite of it, she remarked, “There’s something wrong with the taste but I can’t figure out what it is. It’s like the bread’s stale or something.”
The hubby then took a bite of it and shrugged his shoulders indicating that he couldn’t tell the difference.
When I took a bite, I startled even myself by exclaiming, “It’s the banana! It’s too raw!”
When you keep in mind that I’ve always been known for my lack of discernment to smells and food flavours, I was probably the last person in that room who would have been able to tell what was wrong with the flavour. Looks like my sharpened senses from the pregnancy have remained with me even postnatally.
Unfortunately, I also discovered the other disadvantage of being a mother and growing older…
While back in Australia, I found an old belt I used to wear when I was in Uni. Discovering that my pants were a little loose and feeling extremely proud of my svelte postnatal figure, I thought I would wear the belt. Imagine my horror when I found that the ends of my old belt were barely touching after I had threaded the belt through my pants! I can’t believe my waistline has increased so much since I was in Uni.
