Ever since Gavin learned to turn over from his back onto his front, he has been performing this little task repeatedly and more frequently as the days go by. It has gotten to the point where it is getting rather difficult to change his clothes or his nappy without him wriggling into some awkward position as he tries to turn over onto his front. The more I try to restrict his movements, the more upset he gets.
During a shopping trip to Toys ‘R’ Us, I started looking around for a portable toy with sound and lights. The intention was to take this toy with us on the plane when we travel to Melbourne later in the year. Since the journey will be some seven hours long, I figured it would be wise to have something that could capture Gavin’s attention for a decent duration.
After looking through the selection, we narrowed down to three toys - Vtech’s Rock and Rhyme Soft Cube, Fisher Price’s Miracles and Milestones Piano, and a musical toy in the shape of a radio (I forget the brand). Since our subject was awake, we put the three toys to the test and found Gavin “rocking” away to the Rock and Rhyme Soft Cube, so that’s how we ended up with this toy.
I have since discovered that this toy is also the perfect distraction for Gavin while I change his nappy or clothes. If I find him squirming to turn around, all I have to do is place the cube on the opposite side to the direction he is trying to turn in and switch it on.
