When I first started breastfeeding, I was so paranoid about introducing anything to Gavin other than my breast that I hid all the bottles and pacifiers from everyone so nobody could sabotage my efforts. Now that I am expressing milk for Gavin to take from the bottle while I’m in China attending my brother’s wedding, I figured it was time to bring out the bottles so Gavin can get used to them.
I had heard that babies who have been exclusively feeding on the breast often find it hard to take the bottle but I never really paid much attention to it because I was so focussed on the fear that Gavin might reject my breast if I gave him anything else. After yesterday’s experience, I realise that it may be harder to get Gavin to accept the bottle than I thought.
When I tried feeding him, he started crying the moment the rubber teet went into his mouth. I even asked my SIL to feed him and left the room so he could see me – it didn’t work. We’ll have to try again today. I’m open for suggestions if anyone’s got some.
